Caution: Scammers are Impersonating Hodlnaut!
In recent weeks, scammers have been impersonating Hodlnaut on different platforms like Facebook, Telegram and Discord.
We would like to remind all users that we would NEVER contact you directly or ask you to do anything suspicious like depositing to an external address with promise to increase your crypto assets.
DO NOT send any funds to anyone who contacted you as you will permanently lose your assets.
The following picture is an example of a scam that you should always keep a lookout for:
This message may seem real as it stated the name of Hodlnaut’s Social Media Manager, however it is still FAKE as Hodlnaut’s staff would NEVER ask you to withdraw your funds to external addresses provided by us.
It is essential to learn how scammers work and the potential red flags to look out for. We have collated a list of common cryptocurrency scams and ways to avoid them. Let’s keep your crypto assets safe together!
1. Fake Platforms
There are fraudulent platforms on the internet that look strikingly similar to the authentic platforms. Be mindful as they may look legitimate, but the ultimate goal is to steal your money.
To trick people, they will provide an enticing reward such as free cryptocurrencies, low exchange fees or gifts.
To avoid being scammed, please bookmark https://www.hodlnaut.com/ and always double-check the URL before logging in.
2. Fake Giveaways
Scammers will offer you something that you can get for free if you make a deposit with them. This scenario is depicted in the picture and example above. In this case, the scammer asks you to send funds to the BTC address first and you can get the full amount with an additional 20% bonus. However, if you make transactions to them, you will never see your funds again.
In some cases, scammers may ask for your private keys or sensitive information too.
These fake giveaways are normally found on social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram and Discord. Scammers tend to latch on to popular announcements like an app launch.
To avoid being scammed, never participate in any giveaways that request something of value from you. Legitimate giveaways from Hodlnaut will only be posted on the official channels. Please read further for the list of official channels.
3. Phishing Emails
Phishing emails tend to involve getting you to download an infected file or click into a link to a malicious website. These emails will imitate the product or service you use and make you think that the actual company sent the emails. This can be dangerous as the infected files or malicious websites will try to gather your login credentials and hack into your account.
To avoid falling for phishing emails, always remember to check that the emails are from the original source. Look out for any misspellings, unusual characters, or irregularities. If in doubt, always contact us first to double-confirm. Avoid clicking such links as much as possible, and instead manually type in the URL or use your bookmarked URL.
